Uvistat – Safe in the Sun at Work

"Working people whose job keeps them outdoors for a long time, such as farmers or construction workers, market gardeners, outdoor activity workers, and some public service workers could get more sun on their skin than is healthy for them. Such people can be at greater risk of skin cancer". Health and Safety Executive ("Health Risks from Working in the Sun" document)

People commonly associate sun protection and the use of sun creams with holidays and leisure pursuits, but many jobs involve outdoor work and it is a common mistake to forget to provide workers with adequate protection from the sun when they are carrying out their duties on a daily basis. Indeed, it is the duty of care of any employer to ensure that they provide adequate protection for their workers if they are employed to work consistently outdoors. The risks of adverse effects from the sun are well documented, with the national press carrying headlines in August 2007 stating that the rise of malignant melanoma (the deady form of skin cancer) over the 10 year period up to 2004 was greater than 40%. With the hazard known, each employer must identify the risks and, so far as is reasonably practicable, provide protection against those risks.

Uvistat provide their five star UVA SPF30 lotion in a sachet format specifically for this requirement. They have proven to be very attractive to companies and organisations that need to provide sun protection for their employees as they have the following distinct attributes:
  • Easy to carry (in a trouser or shirt pocket)
  • Easy to store (not as bulky as tubes or bottles when carrying around or in the stores)
  • Cut down on waste as they are issued daily to workers and do not degenerate as the portion is kept sealed in a sachet until it is needed, whereas sun creams will start to degenerate in bottles and tubes once they are opened
  • As many sachets can be issued to an employee as needed at one time for their work schedule
  • Efficient as tubes and bottles can be left at home and not brought to work

Uvistat also provide information leaflets and posters for organisations that need to educate their staff on the dangers of the sun whilst at work, including how to conduct a simple mole check self examination.

See the attached link for a copy of our mole check self examination poster.
